Are you trying to build a business at home and trying to balance work with family? How productive would you say you are currently? Are you struggling because the kids demand so much of your time?
I get it.
Time Management can be tricky with minimal distractions, let alone, those of us that work at home with kids running around. That’s where it can become a COMPLETE challenge.
However, it’s a challenge that can be overthrown.
Yes, I promise.
You just need to have a plan. Stay consistent and focused.
Here are some tips to keep you on the right track.
How to Be More Productive While Building a Business At Home with Kids
Work in the pockets of your time
This becomes a lot easier when the kids are on a clear schedule. This way you can then plan your time slots for better productivity. But let’s face it, kids can still surprise you and you have to be ready when a moment presents itself.
Getting up before your children can allow for some ‘me’ time, as well as quiet time to work. I recently shared my Intentional Morning routine that I do first thing every day when I wake up. This sets me up for a day filled with clarity and strong focus.
I can then get started on my ‘to do’s’ for the day all before they get up.
Have a set Daily Method of Operations (DMO)
Write down all the things that you have to do every single day just for your business. These are the money-making activities that will help get your business moving along. Things like client calls, making connections, follow ups, content creation, whatever your non-negotiables are, write them down. Every time you have a pocket of time available throughout the day focus on this list.
This could be early in the morning, during nap times, or maybe while the kids are having some quiet play time, make sure to work through this list to ensure you are getting these things done on a day-to-day. This keeps you accountable and keeps you from getting lost on social media, in those emails or whatever else could possibly distract you from what matters in your business.
Also, if possible, have your spouse give you some time alone every day to get some work done or take help from a family member or a friend on occasion to watch the kids. That would be a great benefit to you to allow for more productivity without distraction.
Stay clear on why this business is important to you
Keep a clear mind on why you started this thing in the first place. Was it to have more time freedom? Or to live your purpose and finally be your own boss? Or maybe you have a passion for helping others? Stay cognizant of your ‘why’.
You will get distracted or even be unmotivated at times. You may even feel uninspired when it’s needed most. But you have to stay connected to the reasons why this journey is important to you. You have to be ready to make sacrifices and work when it’s not ideal.
Keep the big picture in front of you and you will be sure to stay the course.
Be present with your children when the time allows
I’m sure family is a big part of that ‘why’ we just spoke of. So make sure to be in the moments with them when the time allows. Listen to them, play with them, enjoy those moments you have because those are the moments that count.
Children want to know you enjoy their company and that they make you happy. Express that to them with the time you have. You won’t regret that. That’s when memories are made.
Who knows, they may just want to help you with that awesome business your building.
