Need to boost your mood a bit?

The grey skies during the fall season can make you want to work a bit harder to stay in good spirits. At least it does for me. Cold and grey are not my favorite combination.

So, let’s make some extra efforts to raise our mood and get those happy feels going.

Life Hacks To Boost Your Mood

Think Positive and Smile

Mindset is everything. We can go into a mental tailspin of negativity if we let ourselves. So I suggest thinking positively. Choose to look at things with a glass half full attitude. Smiling is a great way to send a signal to your brain to make you feel happy. Science has shown that the mere act can lift your mood, lower stress, boost your immune system and possibly even prolong your life. So, let’s get cheesy!

Exercise 3-4 times a week

Endorphins baby! That will always help with mood. When you have worked up some amount of sweat in any workout session you instantly feel better. As little as 20 minutes can help in boosting your mood. No excuses!

Eat more plants

There was a study done that proved removing meat, fish, poultry, and eggs improved several mood scores in just two weeks. Watch a video with more on that here. Doing this can cause less tension, anxiety, depression, anger, hostility, and fatigue. Now, I’m not telling you to drop everything and become a full on vegetarian, but I am saying that minimizing your intake of animal foods can truly help your mood. When I started changing my eating to a more plant-based diet which I talk about here I really saw a difference in my overall mood as well as my energy levels. It’s worth the diet makeover, no doubt!

Meditate

This has been a game-changer for me. On the days that I can get a small meditation in, I feel refreshed, focused and more positive. Clearing the mind does wonders. I have been actively doing this for quite a while now and it’s wonderful. This is a practice and takes time to learn how to turn off the brain, but when you can give into it and release everything it can truly uplift your entire day.

Play

Just let go and play. If you have children or even a dog, let yourself go and have some fun with them. Get a game started with some friends, whatever. Playing can allow us to laugh, be in the moment and have a good time, which will definitely boost your mood.

Get some air

Get outside, breathe some fresh air, enjoy the breeze or even the stillness. The sun’s rays will give you a dose of Vitamin D which will provide you with some natural energy and trust, you’ll be better for it. Take a walk, sit on the porch, go for a drive with the windows all the way down. Anything outside can raise you up.

Listen to music

Anytime I am feeling a little under the weather, music helps. I tend to have many impromptu dance parties with my children which always makes me feel better. This helps to release one of the feel good hormones dopamine into our bodies, so turn up your favorite song, relive an old memory or just get lost in the melody. Or possibly sing at the top of your lungs, whatever makes sense to you. I guarantee, it will make you feel good.
